Envitech Programme

PSU x Nagoya City University

The Faculty of Technology and Environment, Prince of Songkla University (PSU), facilitated the Envitech Program, a short course lasting seven days from 25th November to 2nd December. The program included eight PhD students from Nagoya City University, Japan, and four postgraduate students (master’s and PhD levels) from PSU. The program aims to provide participants with practical experience in key areas such as Thai Traditional Medicine, Community-Based Tourism, Data Science in Medicine, and Biomaterials Laboratory Practices. The content is designed to connect these topics with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enabling participants to discuss and explore how these themes can contribute to achieving global sustainability.

One of the programme’s most engaging activities took place on Tuesday, 26th November 2024, at the Thai Traditional Medicine Service Unit on PSU’s Phuket Campus. The session was designed to introduce participants to the heritage of Thai Traditional Medicine with hands-on experiences. Activities included making herbal inhalers, preparing herbal balm, crafting herbal compresses, and demonstrating the proper use of compresses. Participants also received an introduction to the four branches of Thai Traditional Medicine: Thai General Medicine, Thai Massage, Thai Pharmacy, and Thai Midwifery.

The Envitech Programme fostered collaboration between international and local students, encouraging them to work together on projects, discussions, and case studies. This cross-cultural exchange broadened perspectives and enriched the learning experience for all participants.

For me, leading and organising this programme was both a challenge and a privilege. It required careful planning, coordination with multiple stakeholders, and a deep understanding of the needs and expectations of the participants. My goal was to create a programme that would not only educate but inspire—empowering participants to see themselves as active contributors to a sustainable future.

As an educator, witnessing the enthusiasm and collaboration among students from different backgrounds reaffirmed my belief in the power of education as a tool for global change. It is my hope that the lessons learned and the connections made during the Envitech Programme will inspire participants to continue working toward a more sustainable and inclusive world.

The programme’s activities were not only educational but also immersive, allowing students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. This approach empowers participants to think critically about their fields of study and their potential impact on societal and environmental challenges.
